Off-Grid Solar Energy

📍Lago Titicaca, Puno, Peru

Lago Titicaca Solar Community.jpg

Lake Titicaca is a large freshwater lake in the Andes mountains on the border of Bolivia and Peru. This lake is often called the "highest lake" in the world. The Urus and Quechua make up the majority of the population, and mainly live from fishing and tourism activities.

On the picture, you see off-grid solar energy systems. The locals installed the first systems in the year 2010 to use the generated energy for basic services like lighting, smartphone charging and refrigeration.
